Āti Awa Toa FM

Āti Awa Toa FM is an iwi radio station based in Waiwhetu and broadcasting to the Wellington region.

Over the past year, the staff have broadened their focus to provide content for other digital platforms including YouTube and Facebook. The live broadcasting of events such as Te Rā o te Raukura, the Wellington Rugby League final, the annual Parliamentary Rugby game and the regional Kapa Haka competitions have expanded the reach of the media platform.

Āti Awa Toa FM continues to expand the hours of Te Reo content that it broadcasts and to increase the level of locally relevant content.

Cory Sickle is Kaiwhakahaere of Āti Awa Toa FM. He plans, oversees, and coordinates the continuous, multifaceted daily operations of the station, ensuring compliance with standards and policies. He directs and administers the provision of the station’s day-to-day operations including staff recruitment, training, and overall staff management.

Station format

Āti Awa Toa FM’s transmission is primarily to tribal takiwā of the Hutt Valley and Wellington regions on 100.9FM and Porirua on 94.9FM.

The target listener is all Māori 18 – 54 years old. The target niche market support increased awareness and use of te reo Māori and appreciate the 37.5 percent of the stations over all broadcast in te reo Māori made up of local kaupapa kōrero, waiata, kupu hou and whakataukī.

Our local information from our local perspective is a key programme priority. We promote and engage with local events provided by significant groups like regional government, emergency management, iwi and Rūnanga, educational institutions, youth and community groups; an association built upon our 29 years of operation in the community.

Listeners benefit from the positive cultural, social, technological, economic, environmental and political connections and values influenced by the radio stations parent company Te Rūnanganui o Te Āti Awa.

The music mix is important to our success – rnb classics from the 90’s, through to today’s hits and everything in between.

Āti Awa Toa FM radio personalities are on-air 7am – 9pm daily delivering local news, information, stories and history with a strong geographic and social angle.
